Ah, the almighty quote section. LOL I felt both obligated and repulsed to include it since it's such a mundane staple of character shrines, but two of my beta testers told me they missed it, so I buckled and decided to include it.

I wasn't successful in gathering two many quotes, because there weren't too many that struck me hard. Usually it's the descriptions, the disorganized thoughts, and whole passages that grab my attention. Quotes that stand alone on their own come few and far between. Even when reading through scenes I loved, I couldn't find lines to add here. Damon has great one-liners, but Stefan has beautiful descriptions, thoughts or interactions with someone (usually Matt! Those are my favorite) that can't be written down in entirety without doing a lot more work and breaking a lot more copyright laws than I'm prepared for. ;) I'll do a favorite scenes section someday. Having something left to do gives me incentive to keep working on this page anyway!

"Oh yes. Sometimes with the severed heads of prisoners of war."
What? Stefan on whether or not they really played football in the Renaissance.
When? The Awakening p. 30
Why? I like this quote because it's one of the rare glimpses of what Stefan could be like when he's not an unhappy, stressed kind of guy. He has a sense of humor under there! I just *know* it.

"You're the mirror... you've stolen my soul."
What? Stefan's response to Elena's 'I love you.'
When? The Struggle p.108
Why? LOL I hate admitting to liking this line since I'm SO not a romantic, but it got me. It'd be SO cheesy if it wasn't genuine, but since Stefan is always genuine.... Yeah. I want him. I want him bad.

"Why should I? Do you regret when you eat too much steak? Feel sorry for the cow?"
What? Stefan's reply to when Matt asked him if he was sorry for biting Tyler.
When? The Fury p.40
Why? He may not believe a word of this (which makes the quote unique in itself), but it certainly appeals to my inner carnivore (I like my steak to bleed dammit!) and it really shows the struggle between his two natures: his lingering humanity and the vampire within. Plus it proves that he does have some bite in him (ignore the pun).

"You're standing in a deserted hallway with a you know know what right know," he reminded her devilishly.
What? Stefan teasing Bonnie.
When? The Fury p.126-127
Why? See? Somewhere under this guy's emotional baggage is a truly wicked wit. He can be funny! It's quotes like these that give us a glimpse of what he might be like when his life is moving through greener pastures.

"I've seen a lot of evil, Matt, more than you can even imagine. I've even lived it. It's always going to be a part of me, no matter how I fight it. Sometimes I think the whole human race is evil, much less my kind. And sometimes I think enough of both races is evil that it doesn't matter what happens to the rest. When you get down to it, though, I don't know anymore than you do. I can't tell you if there's a point or if things are ever going to turn out all right. But I've got another question for you, so what?".......
......"There's no excuse for giving up because it looks like we're going to lose. We have to try-- because the other choice is to surrender."
What? A pair of (long) quotes taken from a conversation between Matt and Stefan on the evil in the world.
When? The Dark Reunion pages 117-119.
Why? I think this is one of the most eloquent monologues LJ wrote for any of her series. It completely captures everything I love about Stefan, his determination even when things are rough, his ability to see the evil in the world and still maintain his sanity and his values. It shows his strength. And I really couldn't think of a better quote to throw at the modern world as we watch the violence all around us. The people who keep fighting are truly what make this world worth living in, they are the light in our darkness.

"And that would have been better! I would rather have died with her than stood by and watched it."
What? Stefan shouted this to Damon when Damon said that he didn't call for him to help Vickie when she was dying because there was nothing he could have done because Klaus "would have broken you (him) in two like a dry twig."
Where? The Dark Reunion p. 176
Why? This quote speaks volumes about Stefan's steadfast feelings of obligation to those he vows to protect. He means it, and while he may not have made a difference and saved Vickie, such a willingness to be sacrificed moves me. It's beautiful. The man has a heart of a hero and I love him for it.

"Yes that was probably it, you liked it, being with another killer. Was it good, Damon? Did he let you watch?"
What? Stefan as to why Damon must have let Klaus kill Vickie without interfering.
When? The Dark Reunion p. 176
Why? ::cough:: Damon might not have deserved it at all this time, but it was still thrilling to see Stefan really get mean and get to his brother where it hurts. I have a real mean streak in me, and it just coddled it. ^^ I should mention, that in spite of everything I say about Damon on this page, I really do like him. We'd make GREAT friends... but we'd bash each other's brains out if we were anything more than that or if we ever tried to compete for dominance in a relationship. We may have too much in common. =D
